Our day program, BC Harbour, provides a wide assortment of healthy, stimulating, daily activities and pre-vocational training. The day program operates Monday through Friday 8:30am - 3pm. While at the day program, residents participate in many activities to increase independent living skills and develop pre-vocational skills. Residents attending BC Harbour assist in raising chickens. They feed and water the chickens, place mulch in the coop, and collect the eggs daily. Once collected, the residents wash the eggs and store them. BC Harbour also has a greenhouse in which the residents tend to small rose bushes. High Plains Health Providers also has a duck pond on site. The residents attending BC Harbour spend time each morning at the duck pond (and fishing hole) feeding the ducks, geese, and catfish. Our staff encourages and facilitates participation in several areas including but not limited to:

  • Academics:   Reading, writing, math skills, budgeting money and computer skills.
  • Social Skills:   Developing good manners, developing relationships with peers and others, public outings, dancing, and bowling.
  • Community Access and Involvement:   Field trips to news stations, radio stations, local orchards, local businesses, zoos and wildlife parks, library, Meals on Wheels, learning to ride public transportation, and volunteer work.
  • Recreation:   Playing ball, group walks outside, at the park and at the local mall.
  • Pre-Vocational Skills:   All of the above areas that are reinforced at BC Harbour link to pre-vocational training. Every area of the day program can teach potential job skills from following instructions, staying on task, working well with others, respecting your supervisor and peers, developing hand-eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills through computer use, and learning about the types of businesses there are in Wichita Falls that could be potential employers.
